What are Minibiebs?
Community book-sharing boxes across the world
Minibiebs, little free libraries, and book-sharing boxes
A minibieb (short for 'minibibliotheek') is a small, publicly accessible bookcase where anyone can take books for free or leave books for others. You'll also hear them called little free libraries, public book-sharing boxes, or street libraries, and known locally as straatbieb in Dutch, Bücherschrank in German, and boîte à livres in French. Originating from the Little Free Library® movement, they're now found in neighborhoods, parks, and public spaces worldwide.
Why Minibiebs Matter
Sustainability
Books get a second life instead of being thrown away. Every book reused avoids an estimated 0.74 kg of CO₂.
Community
Minibiebs bring neighbors together. They create opportunities for connection and conversation around the shared love of reading.
Free Access
Everyone can access books for free. Minibiebs help promote literacy and make reading accessible to all, regardless of income.
